Right to the point!
I appreciate those who take risks during their dj sets. The radio, some promoters and clubs do not always support this concept. I’ve seen and personally experienced nights gone terribly repetitious and wrong when every dj playing brings the same 20 -30 songs because they are “hot” instead of stretching things out and referencing even momentarily, classic or underground tunes. I realize it can be at times a difficult task to read a crowd. Basing the audience on guessing age, fashion and body movement doesn’t always prove itself to be the best way to rock a party. But a balanced and well rounded musical selections regardless to genre (to me) shows the depth and skill of the selector.
It also has the potential to land different types of work depending on the audience.
Trust me I like to bring a lot of paint to color my musical canvas. If given the crowd participation the ride is guaranteed to be worth the risk.
JUST A THOUGHT…
